2016 Oct: The Brief Site Outage

Had a brief site outage while I rehosted it.   After moving over to a Microsoft Plesk platform some things aren't quite right (like the menu above) but they work.  Some blog articles give errors but I'll fix it up soon.  Thanks to the very excellent customer service and support folks at GoDaddy.  This could have been more difficult but they made it go as well as it possibly could.

2016-Feb: It's been a long winter and though I did a few things, for the most part I've had to be busy with things other than photography.

One very unusual opportunity came to me in the fall of last year though and I'm just getting around to writing about it. Some friends of mine had their house burn down though fortunately no one was hurt. Greg actually invited me to come photograph the remains of his home and consented to an interview from which I've done this post and all with his blessing.

The Fire: Aftermath

2015-Aug: It has indeed been too long since I did a show at Sinclair's Sunrise Cafe and Tearoom, which is where I got my start exhibiting actually. Lynn Sinclair is a wonderful lady and as a bonus she serves wonderful food!

I will have a show opening the evening of August 7th at 6PM but I'm not the only thing happening in Kennett. It's First Friday Art Stroll and Kennett Square Murder Mystery time! Click the link below or the picture itself for more information and to see what I'm showing.

2015-Jun: After sweating through some threatening weather on an outdoor shoot with my X-E2, I decided I needed to get back to a weatherproof camera system. So I've picked up the Fujifilm X-T1 and the Fujinon 18-135mm "superzoom".

I was quite surprised at how much I like it, even though I expected to. It's so much based on the previous X-cameras that it was totally natural for me to shoot and I was comfortable with it on my very first shoot. Amazing. The lens performed better than I expected it to as well. Click the link below or the picture to read the review.

Punching above their weight: The Fujifilm X-T1 and Fujinon 18-135mm Lens

2015-Jun: I couldn't stop thinking about the old couple and their home in western PA which was left abanonded with their possessions inside. I ended up writing a poem about it, "The Temporal King". I've made a video slide show, music and spoken word piece from it. The video (which can be played in full HD) is below, or you can see the photos here: Signs of Life

2015-May: Unless a new mounting and display system I'm using doesn't pass muster with the curator, I should be in the "Flight" show in The Gallery at Franklin Commons. Whether I make it in or not, it will be worth seeing!

I also have about 20 or so works up on the walls of Franklin Commons in addition to the any pieces in exhibitions. If you want to see my work printed large and framed there's a good collection on display. You can even buy them, lol.

“FLIGHT”
Exhibition Opening: June 6th, 2015 from 1pm to 4pm

Exhibition dates: June 6 - July 16

Click the postcard on the right for more information from Franklin Commons.

2015-May: While working in very rural western Pennsylvania I stumbled upon an abandoned house. Not only did it still contain the things of the family that lived there -- it also told a story about them.

It is very like the first abandoned rural house I ever explored when I was just a young boy -- an experience which no doubt shaped me in my walk as an artist and my preferred subject matter.

It's amazing the stories told -- or concealed -- in an abandoned building that still has context.

2015-Mar: I have told the tale of a young man who was tragically murdered in the 1960's just when it seemed his life had turned around. Since then, I've heard from his sister who sent a few pictures from the era and expressed how she had never been told the story of her brother by a family too traumatized to talk about it.

I've include her comments in the article now. Read to find out more:

2015-Feb: I'm continuing to exhibit at the gallery at Franklin Commons. I'm in the new show "The Art of Science" which will open next week on March 7th, 2015 from 1 to 4 PM. If you can come out and say hello, please do!

I also have about 20 or so works up on the walls of Franklin Commons in addition to the couple of pieces in the exhibition. If you want to see my work printed large and framed there's a good collection on display. You can even buy them, lol.

Exhibition Opening: March 7th, 2015

Exhibition dates: March 7- April 10

2014-Sep: I've exhibited before but always in something OTHER than a gallery. Today was the opening of my first gallery show (though not a solo show) and it was fantastic. Lots of great work and great people. The show will be there through October 31 so go see it if you can.

“Through a Lens”
Photography Exhibition: September 27, 2014

Exhibition dates: Sept 27- Oct 31

2014-Sep: I did a little project for a buddy who wanted something different in terms of an engagement shoot. I came up with an idea, scripted and pitched it to him. He and his fiance' loved it and they went with me to a decaying, abandoned textile mill to do something a little different. The video storybook (which can be played in full HD) is below, or you can see the photos here: Willow and Bruce and the Ring of Power

But what's a storybook without a BOOK? Here's the print copy as an online proof. NOTE: Can take a minute to load.

2014-Sep: Bruce Munro, "The Artist in Light", brought out a couple of books over the last year or two and a photo I made of his work was included in each of them. Now, he may be making a documentary to air on public television and perhaps arts-oriented cable channels as well. It's not much, but again the photo you see at the left will appear in the video as it did in his books. Seahill Press is working on this and if it makes it to the air I'll be sure and bring it up, lol.

2014-Sep: I never posted this in the news section, but a retired Philadelphia reporter contacted me with a sad tale of artistic talent tragically wasted.

It happened almost 50 years ago in gang-violence ravaged Philadelphia. But it's a tale which deserves telling so a young man is not forgotten.

2014-Aug: True confessions: I got a bit discouraged and life got busy and I've not been keeping up this page! Furthermore, my web hosting company eliminated the support for the blogging software I was using and so "POOF!" -- my blog is gone. If you look at the menu above there are some new drop down menus for "reviews" and "commentary" and my most popular blog posts will reappear there over time.

I WILL be updating this page soon as I've had a show and some other things happening. Sorry if you wondered what happened to me -- but life happened and like anyone might, I fell behind. Well, maybe it's easier for me... ;-)

2014-Mar: My thanks to Allaleen, a new Swiss watch marketing company. They are branding their watches "ZakWatch" and one of the lines they are presenting is called "Industrial". They have licensed one of my photos to feature this new and really cool looking line of watches! I really love these watches, even if they are a bit out of my league price wise, lol. As an aside: this photo was taken with a humble Panasonic LX7 -- a high-end "pocket camera". Cameras matter less than the photographer, always. The page is here:  ZakWatch "Industrial"

2014-Feb: My new "day job" builds on my industrial experience in the steel mill, but in a new direction. I now work primarily engineering and commissioning petroleum pipeline facilities throughout North America. My first commissioning job took me to the great state of Texas. Texas has it's own culture and feel to it and on my blog I have some photos (of course) and some thoughts on the rural northern prairie country where I worked for 6 weeks. Have a look:  Drinking in the Texas Tea: The Oil Country of Texas

2013-Dec: Some of you are regular readers of my blog, but if you're not, I can tell you I've bounced around in mirrorless camera systems trying to find the one that best serves me. I've finally settled on the Fujifilm X-System which, like any other system, is imperfect. But it is special and Fujifilm's approach to customer service is amazing.

So, here's my take on the overall system, warts and all. Please check out :  Solving for X: Algebra of the Fujifilm X-System

2013-Dec: I know some are tired of these videos... but I'm getting 22 years of my life out of my system. A time that was ruined for myself and over 300 others by managerial incompetence. So here is one last video I mean as an encouragement to all those who worked at Evraz Claymont Steel. Your Spirit's Alive... Watch in full HD!

2013-Dec: Another video that I mean as a tribute and encouragement to my old mates at the steel mill. There's been a lot of crap going on, but it's time to Forget, and Not Slow Down... Watch in full HD!

2013-Nov: I have begun to tell the story of the now closed steel mill where I worked, and I've woven it around some of the portraits I took before I left. There are other parts coming where I will detail the way the mill was mismanaged into failure.

It's a 100 year story that could have lived on but for foolishness and egos. Please check out :  End of an Era Part 1: Steel Mill Portraits - Melt Shop

2013-Nov: Well, November is certainly an eventful month.

I was pleased to have my photography used in the first book about the "Artist in Light" Bruce Munro. The second, smaller book is out and I made the cut there with only 4 other photographers.

Furthermore, although I had a full page photo in the first book, I have a two page spread in the smaller book. Thanks Bruce Munro and Sea Hill Press!

The books will also be on sale soon at Longwood Gardens which is where I photographed his art installation a couple of years ago.

2013-Nov: I've finally brought to life a project that I wanted to do for a very long time: take the environmental portraits of the folks I worked with in the steel mill and show them to the world.

I'm just an old geeky industrial engineer, but these guys (and even some gals) are true "men of steel" with stamina and grit. For many, working in a steel mill would be anything but a dream job; but for some, it's something they cherish. Please check out my Steel Mill Portraits set by clicking the link or the photo at the right.

Where they work is closing and so are too many other steel mills -- take this opportunity to check out an "endangered species" in their natural habitat. The set will continue to grow a few at a time until sometime in December -- with nearly 100 in all by the time it is done.

2013-Nov: Although it's more entertainment than art, here's my tribute to the folks from the steel mill melt shop where I worked for the last 22 years. Watch in full HD!

2013-Oct: My pre-release copy of the book by artist Bruce Munro arrived and as I mentioned previously a photo of mine is published in it. Here's what the book looks like and Sea Hill Press is planning to release a new smaller book that will also feature my photo. With so much of the photography in the books contributed by staff pros I'm delighted to have even one photo included in it! There were 8 photographers in all that contributed including Bruce Munro himself.

2013-Sep: The director of a small, local, non-profit concert venue called  The Flash  (previously "The Kennett Flash") contacted me about decorating using my urbex artwork exclusively. We made a deal and I've hung most of the work already.

There will be a total of 9 photos and three of them will be large 36x24 inch prints. This is a tremendous thing as it allows my prints to be viewed by a diverse and arts-conscious group of people and I'm totally fired up over it. In addition, I'll be able to attend concerts and photograph events as part of the deal.

My thanks to Lee Zagorski and the board of  The Flash  for selecting my work!

2013-Aug: Oh my, I am SO late in posting my news lately. I've actually been exhibiting since August 1st at a local cafe in my hometown of Kennett Square, PA and it's called "Sinclair's Sunrise Cafe and Tearoom". They've hosted my photos before but I'm showing larger (24x36 inch) photos this time as well as my staple 16x20 photos. In addition, ALL of the photos were done using micro four thirds cameras. At the opening, there were folks which found it hard to believe that these smaller sensor cameras can do the job -- but I think I'm making the point. Certainly, the smaller kit I have to carry to even get my photos is a revelation to me!

My photos will be there through the end of September.

2013-Aug: An upcoming book by Bruce Munro aka "The Artist in Light" about his first Longwood Gardens installation last year (and first in the United States) will feature one of my photos of the installation. The photo at the right is the photo they licensed for the book and I'm extremely honored and pleased that they are using one of my photos. The book is called "Catching the Light".

The book is scheduled for release on October 1st, 2013 and can be pre-ordered/ordered on Amazon by clicking here.

2013-Jul: Improved version of my first hybrid video. I made the wind sound on this one myself intead of a slightly over-the-top 3rd party one and some other minor tweaks. More "evolutionary" than "revolutionary" as I learn more about making these. Watch in full HD!

2013-Jul: Solved some problems with the original and new version is here. Watch in full HD!

2013-Jun: Well I finished the movie of the Hot Air Balloon Festival in Unionville, PA. I got there early and managed to hook up with the crew flying the worlds tallest balloon called "Patriot" which is a scale model of the space shuttle -- but 40% bigger! 195 feet tall with a 115 foot wingspan.

This is a documentary of the crew setting up for the festival -- there's a lot of work required to get a balloon as big as patriot ready to go.  I kept the video to about 11 minutes though.  Hope you enjoy it!

Clicking on the photo to the right will take you to the full video on my YouTube page.   It's in HD so be sure to watch it like that.

2013-Jun: Thrilled I was to get an "all access" pass to the Chester County Balloon Festival in Unionville, PA. I got there early and managed to hook up with the crew flying the worlds tallest balloon called "Patriot" which is a scale model of the space shuttle -- but 40% bigger! 195 feet tall with a 115 foot wingspan.

They allowed me to interview them and follow their setup for the flight -- which never happened. They did however get the balloon inflated and on display. Although I was disappointed by not seeing it fly, I had some great times with the crew at the festivel.

Clicking on the photo to the right will take you to the "Teaser Video" (just a trailer) on my YouTube  page.   It's in HD so be sure to watch it like that.

2013-Jun: Previously I linked the photos I took in a decaying asylum -- a solo mission where I entered through abandoned underground utility tunnels. There is a lot more to the story though.

Why don't you come with me as I show you:  The Way It Was: A Monument to Madness

2013-Jun: Longwood Gardens is an idyllic and wonderful place to visit. But what many don't know is about something you may have heard whimsically referred to as "the secret life of plants".

What many don't know is that flowers are exploited horribly even by such seemingly noble institutions as Longwood Gardens... What, you haven't heard about this? You don't believe me?

Click the photo at the right or the following link to see the story the media won't tell you:  Exclusive Coverage: Labor Unrest at Longwood Gardens

2013-Jun: Accepted through a public jury into the Projekt30  art community's June 2013   show.  The photos I submitted come from my visit to an abandoned asylum -- photos which I am gratified to see are getting a lot of attention.  Soon I'll have a blog post telling the whole story of the adventure.

Check out the show as there many great artists from different mediums there -- it's not a photography show only. Often there is sculpture (pictures of it, lol), and many types of graphic arts from traditional oil paintings to digital drawings. Be advised though that it is not every exhibit there is "work safe".

2013-May: I have decided to sell my prints on eBay.  For quite some time I've toyed with the idea of having an "eCommerce" system here on the site -- but I don't want to have to maintain such a beast.  eBay considerably simplifies everything.

Why eBay?  The reputation system, the protections for buyer and seller, a huge potential pool of buyers, and easy PayPal payments.  I don't need a merchant account with a credit card system to make sales.   Click here to visit my eBay print sales.

2013-May: After receiving some nice feedback on my first hybrid video, I was encouraged to take another step. I used a sound effect for the soundtrack that was supplied by another person but I really want to make this medium my own by writing my own music to go with the images to convey the feeling I want it to have.

So, I purchased an inexpensive midi recording setup (I had an extensive one back in the 1980's) so I could compose and perform my own themes to go with the videos.

To try out the idea, I made a video which is basically a slideshow with the simple music I wrote. I think it works, but I'm looking forward to getting more urbex video and doing more like this with my own music.

Clicking on the photo to the right will take you to my YouTube  page for the video.  It's in HD so be sure to watch it like that.

2013-May: There is a website dedicated to photography with the new small sensor cameras -- particularly micro four thirds cameras like my Panasonic G5 -- and they run a weekly "contest" on flickr from which they choose a few shots to feature and my first hybrid video entitled "Kroeger - The Ghost in the Piano" was the top one featured. I'm very grateful to the website Small Camera, Big Picture for featuring my very first hybrid video!

The winning photos (including mine) can be seen by clicking here. Clicking on the photo to the right will take you to my YouTube  page for the video.  It's in HD so be sure to watch it like that.

2013-Apr: On the east coast of the USA is the decaying remains of what was once one of the largest mental hospitals in the world. You have to be bold to enter by traversing almost a 1/4 mile of abandoned steam tunnels which are difficult to find an very spooky -- as is the old asylum.

I did this trip alone which multiplied the intensity of the feelings one feels wandering about this Megalith to Madness

Click on the photo to the right to see the set.

2013-Apr: My latest "user experience" blog review is Diversity's Real Value: A Panasonic Lumix DMC-G5 Review  and is available on my blog site.

As I go down this micro four thirds technology road, new opportunities are opened up and made easier like hybrid video and other possibilities. The Panasonic G5 turns out to be a winner for me. Check out my blog -- let me know what you think.

2013-Apr: Accepted through a public jury into the Projekt30  art community's April 2013   show. All the photos in this exhibit came from a photo shoot at the last remaining silk mill in the country in Lonaconing, MD. The photo at the left is used as a tile when you enter the exhibit and clicking it leads to my work.

Check out the show as there many great artists from different mediums there -- it's not a photography show only. Often there is sculpture (pictures of it, lol), and many types of graphic arts from traditional oil paintings to digital drawings. Be advised though that it is not every exhibit there is "work safe".

2013-Mar: My most recent blog post is Virtue in Downsizing: A Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX7 Review  and is available on my blog site.

I've gotten an even smaller camera to carry in my pocket when micro four thirds is just too large. I took it on an industrial and urbex shoot to see what it could do and was surprised and delighted by the little thing. My old Canon S90 promised a lot and could deliver on some things -- but this is way beyond that. Check out my blog -- let me know what you think.

2013-Feb: In the town of Lonaconing in the state of Maryland in the western mountains is the last standing silk mill in the country. The owner allows photographers to come in and photograph it for a fee and I bought into a trip. I'm glad I did because it's a wonderful place with the machinery intact and numerous artifacts left behind by the workers.

I was a bit tired, worked slowly and carefully, and didn't get a lot of photos but I like what I got. I drove 4 hours to get there on only 4 hours of sleep after being up late photographing a party..

Click on the photo to the right to see the set.

2012-Dec: Accepted through a public jury into the Projekt30  art community's The End of the World Or Not   themed show. Here is a variety of my work, in some cases retitled to fit the theme which was a fun one to contemplate as a theme for a show. Urbex lends itself particularly to it, but I managed to fit in some other photos as well.

Check out the show as there many great artists from different mediums there -- it's not a photography show only. Often there is sculpture (pictures of it, lol), and many types of graphic arts from traditional oil paintings to digital drawings. Be advised though that it is not every exhibit there is "work safe".

2012-Nov: Accepted through a public jury into the Projekt30  art community's November 2012  show. I was pleased with the results from my new camera (Olympus OM-D E-M5) system when I shot in the Outer Banks in September and submitted these to jury to see if they would win me a place in the November show and I'm thankful that they did.

Check out the show as there many great artists from different mediums there -- it's not a photography show only. Often there is sculpture (pictures of it, lol), and many types of graphic arts from traditional oil paintings to digital drawings. Be advised though that it is not every exhibit there is "work safe".

2012-Oct: I was privileged to be invited to photograph a young men's flag football league run as a ministry in north Philadelphia in the Kensington section of Philadelphia, PA known as the Paulo K.O.H.L league.

The night shots are some of the most challenging I have ever tried. Capturing a poorly lit athletic field at high ISO without enough lattitude to shoot high shutter speeds severely limited me.

I created a detailed blog post about the experience (click here) or you can simply look at the photos in my flickr set by clicking here.

2012-Oct: There is a website dedicated to photography with the new small sensor cameras -- particularly micro four thirds cameras like my Olympus E-M5 -- and they run a weekly "contest" on flickr from which they choose 4 shots to feature and my photo entitled "On a Pedestal" was the top one featured. I'm very grateful to the website Small Camera, Big Picture for featuring my shot.

The winning photos (including mine) can be seen by clicking here. Clicking on the photo to the right will take you to my flickr page for the photo.

2012-Oct: My most recent blog post is Coastal Liberty: Shooting in the Outer Banks  and is available on my blog site.

I just returned from a vacation trip to the Outer Banks of North Carolina which are a set of barrier islands in the Atlantic Ocean. I had a great time and I hope you like the photographs which you can see in my blog post. Check out my blog -- let me know what you think.

2012-Aug: Accepted through a public jury into the Projekt30  art community's August 2012  show. Back to my Urbex work and the photo to the right shows the icon that leads to my gallery in the show and the image is titled "Hell's Kitchen"... Many of these shots are things I had previously rejected but found virtue in after going back over my archives. It's weird how that happens... once you hated it, now you love it kind of thing. Quite a few are from the "Letchworth Village Institute for the Feeble Minded and Epileptic".

2012-Jul: My second solo art exhibition will open in August at Sinclair's Sunrise Cafe and Tea Room,  127 E. State Street in Kennett Square, PA 19348.

The wine and cheese opening will be on Friday, August 3rd from 6-9 PM and and will conincide with the "First Friday Art Stroll" that has become such a Kennett Square tradition. My nature photography spans big landscapes to "macro" (extreme close ups) of both plants and insects -- some with a bit of a twist. Please come out to perhaps view nature as you've not seen it before, as well as some more conventional photography revealing the art in nature. Email me through this site (link in the About menu under Contact) if you want an invitation mailed, but feel free to just show up.

The show will be on display at Sinclair's (which is open for breakfast and lunch only) until the end of September.

2012-Jul: My most recent blog post is Only the Lonely: A Strange July 4th Meditation  and is available on my blog site. On July 4th I entered an abandoned building I'd seen but never explored and found what appears to be a homeless persons secret place.

Didn't know I had a blog? Explore the site, you never know what you might find...

2012-Jun: Accepted through a public jury into the Projekt30  art community's June 2012  show. A mix of both Urbex and nature, shot with my big Nikon's or my little Olympus PEN's. The photo to the left shows the icon that leads to my gallery in the show and the image is titled "The Forgotten Maze"... I haven't been as active because life happens and a back problem took a lot out of me but I'm back in the saddle again.

2012-Mar: It's time for Kennett Square's First Friday Art Stroll and I'll be at Sinclair's Sunrise Cafe and Tea Room,  127 E. State Street in Kennett Square, PA 19348.

My work will continue to be exhibited until the end of March if you haven't been out to see it yet. C'mon out for the art stroll because Kennett Square is a lovely small town with a number of quality, intimate restaurants and shops. The Art Stroll runs from 6PM to 9PM on Friday, March 2nd and parking is free throughout the town after 6PM.

2012-Mar: Accepted through a public jury into the Projekt30  art community's March 2012  show. For this show I'm back to shooting my big Nikon's because we drove up there in a blizzard I wasn't sure of the condition of the place I shot: the Watts-Campbell company in Newark, NJ. They were a premier manufacturer of steam engines back in the day. The photo to the left shows the icon that leads to my gallery in the show and the image is titled "The Meth Lab of Dr. Moreau"...

2012-Feb: My first solo art exhibition at Sinclair's Sunrise Cafe and Tea Room,  127 E. State Street in Kennett Square, PA 19348.

The wine and cheese opening was on Friday, February 3rd from 6-9 PM and was attended by over 100 people (we lost count). Numerous prints sold and it was certainly beyond my expectations for my first showing and I want to thank everyone who came out and helped make it a success! I also was there for breakfast on the Saturday morning after and about 20 more folks came by to have breakfast and more sales were made so it was indeed a total success. The show will be on display at Sinclair's (which is open for breakfast and lunch only) until the end of March.

2012-Feb: Accepted through a public jury into the Projekt30  art community's February 2012  show. This time some experimental photography with the compact Sony NEX system that worked out, and one of my shots from the UK. My exhibit leads off with a slightly odd shot titled "Where Spiders Fish for Broken Dreams"

2012-Jan: Had a chance to do some shooting in the old Watts Campbell Steam Engine factory in Newark, NJ. Drove up during a snow/ice storm and had a great time. Thanks to Matt Palmer for organizing the trip, and to Chad Watts for his indulgence and great hospitality in having us in his family's historic machine shop. Click the photo on the right to see the set of pictures on my Flickr site.

2012-Jan: Well, it had to happen: bad news. I'm raising my rate to $150 per shooting hour. My hourly rate includes post processing time and I'm dramatically underpriced in the market. Although my rates have risen, I'm still a great bargain for quality photography. Don't think so? Check out my wedding books and portfolios and judge for yourself! I hope you agree, lol.

2011-Dec: New autumn themed wedding book produced for John and Jennifer Nock -- a wonderful couple to work with. To view the book, click on the pages below; or to see a full screen preview, click on the "View Larger" link under the book.

2011-Dec: Accepted through a public jury into the Projekt30  art community's "Melancholy: At the Bottom of Everything"  themed art exhibit. This is my favorite themed show over there and it's the third and perhaps the last one on this particular theme. I am very happy to have made it. My work can be viewed by clicking the 4th tile from the left in the top row when you get to the exhibition main page using the link above, or by clicking the logo to the right.

2011-Dec: Accepted through a public jury into the Projekt30  art community's December 2011  show. Once again, I'm featuring both my art and commercial photography. I'm very grateful that some of the images I make for other folks are accepted into these shows as art.

2011-Nov: Accepted through a public jury into the Projekt30  art community's November 2011  show. When this show went to jury starting in early October, I had very little new in the way of art photography. So, I entered some of the work I've done for other people and it still worked. Thanks to the folks who hired me to photograph the images that got me into this show. The image at the right is called "Evil Idol Maintenance" and was totally a fortuitous and not an arranged shot in the children's garden at Longwood Gardens.

2011-Oct: I took a trip to the UK to do photography and was able to stay with my daughter while I was there -- a way to combine two goals. I did some photography of the 'North Country' (including an old cotton mill shoot) in the Yorkshire counties and I've put up a slide show from it. See the slide show menu, or click the image to the right to view the show.

2011-Oct: Accepted through a public jury into the Projekt30  art community's
"Fear V"  themed art exhibit. These exhibits feature a number of artists submitting work that they feel meets the theme, and then the jury selects the work to be exhibited. Be sure and hover your cursor over the individual photos when viewing an artists work to see their take on their work (if they provided one).

2011-Oct: For Tripwire Interactive's recently released FPS ("First Person Shooter") WW II game Red Orchestra: Heroes of Stalingrad, I directed a small team doing research and Russian translation. I served as an industrial historian and contributed photos of old industrial equipment to help the games artists and 3D modeling team recreate the interior of an old steel mill. My two team members (Vadim Yashchenko and Dan Millington) and I appear in the credits at the end of this PDF manual under the "Research" section.

2011-Oct: Longwood Gardens  has announced their new membership levels in their Fall, 2011 "Passwords" newsletter (and gave me photo credit). You can see the newsletter (in .PDF form) by clicking here. Longwood used a picture of mine for the highest membership level called "Chimes Tower".  See the news item further down the page for more information.

2011-Oct: Accepted through a public jury into the Projekt30  art community's October 2011  show. I am delighted to be juried into these shows where I am competing with artists in many mediums, not just other photographers. Thanks to those who jury these shows for providing encouragement for artists like myself.

2011-Sep: Did you know I have a YouTube channel? I made a movie of a missions trip to rural southern India and you can see it in two parts: Mission to India Part 1 and Mission to India Part 2. Between the two parts you will tour a rural village in southern Andhra Pradesh state, meet the Banjara (who are the ancestors of the Gypsies), and more. My movie making days as "pFeOniCz productions" are pretty much over (for now), but if you're interested you can also visit (and maybe subscribe to) my Entropic Remnants YouTube channel where there is a little more.

2011-Sep: To the "Plein Air" Painters and Photographers I met at Longwood Gardens today, welcome! I have put the shots I took today on my flickr site which you can see by clicking here. It was great to meet you all today! MARCIA: there is a pic of you at your easel in the set.

2011-Sep: I forgot about this: my photography is featured -- with my name misprinted as "John A. Griggs" -- in "Tattoo Highway" which is an eclectic journal of prose, poetry and art. Although the "Spring 2011" issue, it was rather late being published. See Tattoo Highway #21: Gamblers Choice and my pictures are in the art and photography section.

2011-Sep: New site design for iFrame compatible browsers (all but some mobile browsers) using non-flash slide show to showcase work immediately on accessing the home page. Non-compatible browsers see the old layout.

2011-Sep: New Slide Show features added! A couple are up and running so see the menu item "Slide Shows" to view them. More to come.
